The Bloomers run their own local annual Bloom competition. The first competition was launched in 2003 and is judged in July by our two horticultural experts, John Snailham and Richard Huggins from Derwentside District Council.

All entrants and winners are listed and we have a Photo Gallery of all the gardens entered. The Bloomers would like to thank everyone who made the effort to take part in 2003 - well done everyone, and let's go for bigger and better in 2004!

The Bloomers local "mini" competition runs in addition to the main Northumbria in Bloom bid and gives anyone and everyone in Craghead the chance to take part and have their own special efforts recognised and rewarded.

Sadly, the Bloomers founding chairman, Mr Brian Ince from New Kyo, died on Sunday 8th February 2004. Brian was a long-standing community activist throughout the district and he will be greatly missed. The Bloomers have decided to commemorate Brian by introducing a new trophy for our local annual Bloomers competition. This is the Brian Ince Memorial Cup and will be awarded every year (category still to be decided).
